- 13th Century “Sugarloaf” Helm
13th Century “Sugarloaf” Helm
Based on period illustrations from the late 12th and early 13th century, this helmet is made of 14 and 16 ga. mild steel with a 12 ga brass front cruciform ocular and nasal. Such helmets were a step between the use of the traditional great-helm and the later bascinet. The “sugarloaf” style is characterized by a one-piece conical top.
