This matchlock mechanism is based on rare examples of German military weapons from the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Unlike most matchlocks of the period, which requires the pan cover to be opened and closed manually, this mechanism allows for the pan to be closed mechanically after priming. By lifting the locks trigger bar, it simultaneously rotates the serpentine holding the match into the pan while opening the pan mechanically. The process is then repeated with each shot.
Each lock mechanism is made individually upon client request.
