The Roman shield (scutum) was an extremely important piece of equipment for the legionnaires for both offensive and defensive use. This reconstruction is loosely based on designs for late Imperial shields used by auxiliaries. The 3/4” thick wooden body is curved to allow for protection around the body. The center features a raised 14 ga. mild steel boss. Total weight comes to approximately 3lbs 10 oz.
